Serves 6 preparation time 10 min, cooking time 30 min. Ingredients. 1 kg round or topside steak 1 onion cut into wedges 2 cloves garlic, crushed 250g mushrooms, halved 500g jar of bottled tomato pasta sauce 2 tblsp tomato paste 1 cup beef stock pinch of sugar large pasta shells, cooked, and basil leaves. Method. 1. preheat oven to 180deg C. Cut the steaks across the grain into strips. Season with salt and pepper. Add a little oil to beef strips mix well. 2. Heat wok or frying pan to hot temp. Stir fry the beef in 3 batches, remove each batch and place in a casserole dish. Add a little oil to pan, add garlic, mushrooms and cook for 2 min. Add tomato paste, pasta sauce, stock and sugar, stir until boiling. Pour over beef in casserole dish and stir to combine. 3. Cover the casserole, place in the oven, cook 30 to 40 min or until beef tender. NB simmer casserole, (not boil) for more tender beef. Serve with pasta and sprinkle with basil leaves.
